Jamie Bell has been set to star in Man On A Ledge, the Summit Entertainment crime drama that will star Sam Worthington. Reports have The Hurt Locker’s Anthony Mackie also negotiating.

The film’s being directed by Asger Leth, best known for his documentary Ghosts of Cite Soleil. He’s gathering a strong cast for his Hollywood debut, a nice rebound after the implosion of Cartel, the La Scorta remake Leth was set to direct until its plug got pulled by Universal last April, seven weeks from shooting with Josh Brolin in the starring role.

Scripted by Pablo Fenjves with a rewrite underway from Red scribes Erich and Jon Hoeber, Man on a Ledge begins production November in New York. Bell plays a cop thrown in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. Let out for his father’s funeral, he escapes and ends up on a hotel ledge threatening to kill himself. Worthington plays his brother, who happens to be planning a heist of a jewelry store across the street while the cop threatens suicide. Mackie would play Bell’s ex-partner. The pic’s produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian and David Ready. Still to be cast is the role of a female psychiatrist who figures strongly into the plot. Rumors have Amy Adams interested, but there is no deal yet.

Anthony Mackie is in negotiations for cop thriller “Man on a Ledge” for Summit Entertainment and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.

The script, written by Pablo Fenjves, revolves around a female psychologist and a former NYPD officer who threatens to jump to his death.

Mackie, who gained attention in “The Hurt Locker,” was most recently seen in “Notorious.”

He’s wrapped on MRC’s sci-fi thriller “The Adjustment Bureau” and is in DreamWorks’ sci-fier “Real Steel.”

Keira Knightley film Last Night is to open the Rome Film Festival, organisers have announced.

The film, which also stars Clash of the Titans’ Sam Worthington, is described as “a romantic tale of sexual attraction, betrayal, and jealousy”.

Nicole Kidman’s latest film, drama Rabbit Hole, will also be screened at the festival, which is in its fifth year.

The event runs from 28 October to 5 November.

There will also be a spotlight on Japanese cinema and culture including an event dedicated to film-maker Akira Kurosawa on the centenary of his birth.

It will feature a restored version of his 1950 film Rashomon.

The festival’s children’s’ film section host the premiere of the first Italian film in 3D, Winx Club, based on a cartoon following five teenage girls living in a magical universe.

Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore will head up the jury deciding the Marc’Aurelio awards including for best film, actor and actress.

Sam Worthington has added yet another film to his ever-expanding list of projects. Worthington tells West Australian [via The Playlist] that he plans to return to his native land next fall to shoot the surfing drama Drift. Worthington, a lifelong surfer, said of the project, “I’m a WA boy at heart and to go back there and put something back into my home town is something I am really looking forward to. There’s something pure and true about surfing, and there is something pure and true about this script.” According to West Australian, the film is an “inspired-by-facts story of how surfing evolved from a pastime to a global industry, spawning household names such as Billabong and Rip Curl. Worthington will play a photographer and journalist instrumental in that revolution.”

Here’s everything else Worthington has got on his plate: Clash of the Titans 2 (set to film in the spring), Dracula: Year Zero (set to shoot in the summer), Avatar 2, Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future, The Last Days of American Crime, Man on a Ledge, and Quatermain.

Warner Bros. is heading into space with “Dan Dare,” closing a deal for the feature rights to the British property with Sam Worthington attached to star.
Basil Iwanyk (“Clash of the Titans”) will produce through his Thunder Road banner.

“Dan Dare,” created by Frank Hampson, first appeared as a comic in 1950 and centered on a gallant chief pilot of the Interplanet Space Fleet. Time frame was the 1990s and the complex adventures were set on planets presumed to have extraterrestrial life.

Dare, described as the British equivalent of Buck Rogers, also appeared in radio programs and a TV series, “Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future.”

Rights were obtained from Dan Dare Inc. through Colin Frewin, who exec produces along with Dan Lin.

Worthington, who’s been attached to “Dan Dare” for several months, recently wrapped “The Fields” for producer Michael Mann, and will next be seen in John Madden’s “The Debt” opposite Helen Mirren. He also recently announced an imprint deal with Radical Publishing under which his Full Clip Prods. will create content for comicbooks and films.

WB-based Iwanyk is a producer on Ben Affleck’s crime drama “The Town,” due out in September., and “Clash of the Titans 2,” with Worthington returning as the lead

Warner execs are Sarah Schechter, Ollie Madden and Matt Milam. Kent Kubena is overseeing for Thunder Road.
